I read this in its entirety only recently, and longed to have read the whole book back when I was of a similar age to Tom and his comrades. A brilliant, warm, witty and finely-written adventure which brought a smile to my lips. It gave me a thrilling renewal of my recollections of high-spirited times in my childhood when every day was a blissful, exciting, or dangerous adventure, and I was the main character in the ever-unfolding personal narrative of my remarkably eventful life. What's more, it helped bring the hope that life will be as fun again.
